NE Iowa
Definitely still go the sliage route. Beef cows eat it better and water way less as silage. I have chopped 5' tall fully headed but not quite dough stage rye and had it still test 13 percent protein. Plenty good enough for a dry beef cow to get fat one. With the extra tonnage you have gained with the delay you won't need to limit feed them. I shoot for maximum tonnage on rye silage every year but never let the bunk go empty when feeding it.
