Definitely still go the sliage route. Beef cows eat it better and water way less as silage. I have chopped 5' tall fully headed but not quite dough stage rye and had it still test 13 percent protein. Plenty good enough for a dry beef cow to get fat one. With the extra tonnage you have gained with the delay you won't need to limit feed them. I shoot for maximum tonnage on rye silage every year but never let the bunk go empty when feeding it.


Always limit feed cows, the improvement in efficiency far outweighs the extra calories they get from the feed.
