Correct me if I am wrong. The nitrogen in map/dap is nh4. When you apply nh3, it picks up an h from the moisture in the soil, so it is nh4. Therefore, map/dap and nh3 are ultimately the same form when applied. If you can hold nh3 over winter, you can hold map/dap.
