Actually, if you want to get right down to the gnat hairs, it's how many acres you planted (& where) on each different day, not when you started or finished. It only matters for early plant date, final plant date, and during late plant period. Our acreage reports ask for the date planted, not when started or finished.
Just going by what i was informed of few years back
FSA said field was planted when finished that was the day they wanted "When finished with field"
CI uses information from FSA for date planted
We finished the field after the last plant date "3 days late" --cut our coverage by a few percent for that field
IMO it comes to gnat hairs I want to do what the rules say I don't want to game the system in any way BUT I want to take full advantage of what I am paying for
