Soft water is not the panacea many people think it is. It usually refers to sodium content. Hard water is defined by having more calcium. The ratio of the two defines the hardness/softness of the water.
Best scenario is having water that is low in both, as far as spraying goes.
In terms of human health, hard water is much healthier than soft water.
