Subject: RE: Chemical mixing and soft water question

Coles County, Illinois
My well water is >50 ppm iron and I don't have rural water. I used to spray for a neighbor that was on rural water so I traded spraying his for a water source. If I hauled water from town it would add an hour to every load. I tested the tile outlet (two 24" tiles) and the water quality is very good. Where I pull from is and old concrete headwall/spillway and we've had to move the outlets 30' downstream as the original tile broke under the headwall/spillway. So there's like a 30' round pond 8' deep to pull from.

I would say it's rare here to pull out of a creek. Rural water is pretty common but it's 2 miles away from the farm. What seems to be most common is buying hot mixes from Helena or custom application. I have even seen COOP trucks delivering hot mixes to private applicators. I like spraying and value controlling the application timing. I've asked the hot mix buyers why they don't buy wholesale and they have said "I just want it mixed right." I don't have that problem.
