Subject: RE: Annual rye grain in wheat

Croswell, Michigan
Not much you can do. My problem is I grow about 70 acres of rye to sell as cover crop seed. The combine is the biggest seeder of all. The first year I blamed it on our retailer not cleaning their equipment, then I realized it was me.

A few years ago I had a buddy that is a big cover crop guy. He had rye so bad in his wheat the local wheat buyer told him that they would not take it. He went in about two weeks before the wheat was ready with the combine and kept the head above the wheat and clipped the rye off. He trampled a lot of wheat but at that point it was just damage control. He was able to market the wheat with out issues.
