Although pretty rare, someone may have a sponge/rope wick sprayer in your area to wick roundup onto the tall rye heads before they set seed. We purchased a sponge system for our sprayer 4 yrs ago because we grow winter wheat and plant rye cover crops. Haven’t had need to use but think I will this year due to extremely dry conditions in the fall of ‘22. Too dry to get the CSP rye cover crop growing so a fair percent never germinated. Missed my very tight window of opportunity to apply roundup before wheat emergence due to wind and rain after wheat planting last fall when I noticed rye emerging. Prior years we had planted rye cover crop the fall before winter wheat with NO volunteer rye growing in the wheat.
