| Curious what your experience level is planting into green rye? It's been my experience that farmers typically wait for the top to completely dry out before the ground is "fit" to plant. If you're waiting for that to happen with a knee high growing rye you are waiting way too long and you're at the risk of planting into a low moisture environment. The ground doesn't dry from the top down but rather from the bottom up. In the past I've only encountered 1 time where we could have planted into a no-till cornstalks before planting into a living rye stand and that occurred when we had restless rains for a 2 week period and the rye had surpassed the pollination stage. This coupled with just an absolutely saturated profile caused us some planting delays. My suggestion is dig down and see what you learn in the cover crop field and don't base judgement on what the top looks like.
