| In my experience, the worked ground will probably be fit first by a day or so, but not the most ideal conditions. It will be in the type of conditions where you could get across it before you could get across the field with rye because you have dry dirt on the very top.
But a day or 2 after the worked ground is fit, the ground with rye will probably go and it is actually much better conditions to plant into than the worked ground. The rye ground is drier overall in the top 6", whereas the conventional field will be dry in the top couple inches but much more muddy underneath the first few inches. | |
