Subject: RE: Cereal Rye in a Wet Spring

We planted a few weeks ago into standing rye broadcast at 60 lbs and lightly vertical tilled in the fall. Planted green in a really dry spring. The rye ground was certainly drier than straight no till or worked here. We sprayed right after planting and got 15+ inches of rain in 2 days about 3 weeks after planting. The rye is matted down, but to my surprise beans are still coming through. Water overtopped terraces in our fields and very little erosion occurred. It was something to see. Now we are growing beans and mushrooms apparently.....
